The Kiel City Council approved two Fire Department expenditures: the purchase of a 2025 Can-Am UTV for $23,006.99 to be paid with grant funds, and the final payment of $417,793.39 for a new fire engine and associated apparatus and equipment.
Council members said the UTV purchase was funded by a grant of $25,000 awarded to the fire department; staff included the invoice and a visual of the equipment in the meeting packet. One council member commended Lieutenant Reisinger for grant-writing efforts, noting he had helped secure more than $100,000 in grants (figure given in meeting remarks). The motion to approve the UTV purchase carried on a roll call recorded as 6-0.
Separately, council members approved the final payment of $417,793.39 for the new engine apparatus and equipment, an item that had been included in the previously approved capital budget. Staff said delivery of the engine is expected in October and a final inspection is scheduled for Sept. 22. The motion to authorize the final payment carried 6-0.
Both purchases were presented as previously-authorized budget or grant-funded items and the council recorded the votes and asked staff to proceed with payment and final inspections.
