The Waverly Planning and Zoning Commission on Sept. 4 recommended approval of a rezoning application that would change parcels including Willow Lawn Mall from S-1, Shopping Center District, to C-2, Commercial District.
The application, submitted by MBN Partnership, covers five parcel IDs and buildings identified in the agenda memo as Willow Lawn Mall and Mercy Lawn Waybill Family Medicine. Kate Payne, reading the staff memo, said the rezoning request "aims to align with the current and potential future use of the property" and noted the future land-use map designates the area for commercial use.
Commissioners asked for clarification about the geographic extent of the rezoning. One commissioner questioned why the entire former S-1 area was not included; staff and the applicant clarified the request covers the parcels owned by MBN Partnership. After brief discussion the commission took a voice vote. A motion "that the Planning and Zoning Commission recommend approval of this application" was moved and seconded; the commission voted in favor and the motion passed.
The recommendation will be forwarded to the Waverly City Council for final action through the city’s normal legislative process.
