County consolidates COBRA administration with WEX to reduce vendor fragmentation and costs

The Hubbard County Board of Commissioners approved a housekeeping change to county benefits administration, moving COBRA and Minnesota state continuation services from MedSurety to WEX.
Human resources reported that the county already uses WEX for VEBA, HSA and FSA accounts and that consolidating COBRA and state continuation onto the same portal reduces administrative complexity and yields a modest cost savings of about $60 per month. The HR presenter requested a Nov. 1 transition date to align with open enrollment and allow both vendors to transition coverage for those on COBRA.
Commissioner Ted moved to approve the administrative change and Commissioner Tom seconded; the motion carried unanimously. HR staff said the transition would be coordinated to minimize disruption.
