District staff outline boundary-redraw timeline; board told formal plan to arrive in January

District staff briefed the board on the boundary-redraw project and said they are assembling data and scenarios with the goal of delivering an official plan in January and parent notifications in March.
“This is a very sensitive, complicated puzzle to put together,” said the district presenter, explaining the team is evaluating inter-district transfers, open enrollment, current boundaries, school capacity and staffing projections for the coming three years. Staff said they have convened a team that includes legacy experts, transportation and data personnel to build and iterate scenarios.
Board members stressed the district should consider districtwide impacts rather than only west-side changes. “I just want to make it really clear in the room that we recognize that this is likely a district wide change, especially at the elementary level,” a board member said. Staff responded that they plan to analyze macro and micro scenarios and will try to provide information to affected families earlier than the January board presentation when feasible.
Staff also outlined community engagement steps already completed for Phase 2 projects and said they will continue meetings with building principals and neighborhood groups as interior design and school-specific inputs are finalized.
Ending: Staff said they will continue building scenarios, conduct further analysis and return to the board in January with a formal proposal and a plan for parent notification in March.
