At a council meeting presentation, the Atascadero Police Department and city staff recognized officers who performed a lifesaving response to a traffic collision on Oct. 16, 2024, and honored employees for long service to the city.
Chief Suttles read a citation describing the response: officers arrived after a single-vehicle crash in the 4800 block of Del Rio Road and found the driver unresponsive. The citation recounts that "Corporal Nobrega provided an AED from his patrol unit while Sergeant Rodriguez maintained an open airway and Officer Hurst confirmed the absence of a pulse. Corporal Pippen applied the AED pads and Corporal Nobrega began chest compressions. The AED ... advised a shock, which was administered by Corporal Pippen." The citation said a pulse was regained and the driver was transported to the French hospital and later discharged.
Nut graf: City leaders used the presentation to highlight coordination between police and fire personnel during medical emergencies and to thank first responders for actions that staff said "undoubtedly saved this individual's life."
Employee recognition: City Manager Jim Lewis led recognition of multiple employees celebrating milestone anniversaries, including Ryan Hofstadter (10 years, Building Inspector), Detective Ron Oberacher (10 years), Phil Dunsmore (10 years, Community Development Director), Jim Lewis (10 years of combined service with the city in various roles), Dawn Patterson (15 years, Finance), Dean Peristich (20 years, Fire Captain/Paramedic) and Annette Muneer (25 years, retired; Community Development). Staff described the honorees' roles and contributions and invited recipients and their families for photos with the council.
Ending: Council members thanked the honorees and the police officers; the presentation concluded before the council moved on to other items on the agenda.
