Court discussion focused on: the wide spread in bid prices, options for value engineering (including changing handrail designs and alternate materials), the cost of steel in the project (estimated around $45,000 for steel items), and bonding thresholds for contractors (county staff noted projects over $75,000 typically require contractor bonding). Commissioners asked staff to work with NextBuild to try to bring the price within the county's target and to verify qualifications and bonding capacity for local bidders.
