Residents urge city to repave Bedford Avenue, cite historic-district and flooding concerns

Residents of Bedford Avenue urged the Placerville City Council during public comment on Sept. 23 to prioritize repaving and sidewalk repairs for the historic connector street leading into downtown.
Bonnie Morris West told the council Bedford Avenue was “the historic connector to downtown” and asked the city to provide a timeline for resurfacing, curbing repairs and installation of speed bumps to address vehicle speed between Highway 50 and Pleasant Street. Robin Roars, owner of the Seasons Bed & Breakfast on Bedford Avenue, presented a petition signed by about 30 nearby residents and referenced prior petitions from 2006 and the bridge construction period when repaving had been promised. Roars said the roadway is currently patched and uneven, leading to flooding at property curbs where gaps allow water to flow into yards.
Roars noted the street frames downtown for visitors to historic homes and events and said sidewalks and curbing need attention to prevent continued property impacts. She asked the city to include curbing, repaving and speed-calming measures as part of any work and said a larger petition had been submitted in prior years.
Council members responded by directing staff to reference the city website for current project lists and noted the matter will be considered within the city’s pavement management and project planning process. No formal agenda item or funding appropriation was made during the meeting; the comments were recorded during the public-comment period and referred to staff for follow-up.
