Manhattan swears in police commander William Garrison and Sergeant Brian Diaz

The Village of Manhattan on Sept. 16 formally promoted and swore in William Garrison as commander and Brian Diaz as sergeant in a brief ceremony at the start of the board meeting.
Mayor Mike Adrienne administered the oath of office for both officers. Garrison, who the mayor said joined the department as a lateral transfer and brings more than 20 years of law-enforcement experience, spoke after the oath and thanked the department and the community. “The opportunity that I've had here... to finish out my time in police service has been... a tremendous opportunity, and I thank Manhattan for this time here,” Garrison said.
Brian Diaz likewise took the oath and thanked residents and trustees for their support. The mayor and other board members offered congratulations; family members accompanied both officers at the meeting.
The promotions were ceremonial actions recorded on the meeting agenda; no separate vote was recorded. The board and staff highlighted the officers’ prior experience in traffic and truck enforcement, field training and other assignments.
