Votes at a glance: Braintree School Committee approves personnel appointments, union agreements and routine items

The Braintree School Committee recorded several routine approvals and personnel actions Monday. Key votes included appointment of a full‑time nurse, acceptance of gifts, approval of trips and ratification of memoranda of agreement reached in closed session with union groups.

Nurse appointment The committee approved the appointment of Deirdre Shea as a full‑time district nurse. The superintendent presented Shea’s resume and described her credentials as a registered nurse and family nurse practitioner with a Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license; Shea had been serving as a long‑term substitute nurse at South Middle School prior to the appointment. The motion to appoint was moved by Dr. Horak, seconded by Ms. Tuffy, and approved unanimously.

Memoranda of agreement (executive session) After returning to open session, the committee ratified three MOAs discussed in executive session: an agreement with Teamsters Local 122 representing school bus drivers; an agreement with Teamsters Local 122 covering student transportation monitors; and an agreement with the Braintree Cafeteria Workers Association. Each motion was moved by Dr. Horak, seconded by Ms. Tuffy and approved unanimously in roll‑call votes.

Routine items The committee approved open‑session minutes (July 21) and a revised version of the June 9 minutes (revision requested by a public commenter), accepted a list of gifts to schools totaling several thousand dollars (including specific donations noted in the meeting packet), and approved multiple out‑of‑district trips for music programs to performances in Providence. The committee also approved a motion to receive all reported gifts and to approve the listed trips; those motions passed unanimously.
