The Columbia Heights Public Schools Board of Education approved three board-level goals for the 2025–26 academic year at its Sept. 23 meeting.
The board voted to adopt a short preamble describing the purpose of annual board goals and then approved the three goals. The goals are: (1) board members will pursue continuous learning and leadership development opportunities (including MSBA events) and invite student school board representatives when possible; (2) the board will develop a legislative action committee to coordinate local advocacy with families, staff and partners; and (3) the board will expand community relationships and partnerships to promote trust and support for the district, working with the superintendent to increase board participation at school and community events.
Board members emphasized transparency and the intent to assess progress on the goals at midyear and at year end. The board added a preamble to clarify that the goals supplement ongoing governance work and that the goals will be posted on the district website for public reference.
A motion to approve the goals with assessments at midyear and year-end carried on a voice vote. Board members praised the work that produced the goals and noted alignment with the district’s Vision 2030 and strategic plan.
