Supervisors discuss flood repairs, VDOT coordination and generator installations after recent storms

Residents and a board member raised multiple trouble spots from recent storms, including a blocked drainage/culvert near Union Church that prevents driveway access for the Rasnicks and a stretch of unpaved road in Scenic Hill Garden Estates where residents seek paving or maintenance for approximately 1,200 feet.
The county administrator said he will re-inspect reported sites with VDOT staff and follow up with property owners. He noted VDOT is handling many large repairs across the region following multiple weather events and that some repairs may require coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the railroad or FEMA. The administrator said the county is reviewing potential funding sources, including United Way donations and state relief funds, and will be cautious to keep work within grant scopes when private property is involved.
On county projects, staff reported the Cleveland Community Center flood repairs are complete and that generator installations are in progress countywide; at the meeting staff said seven generators were installed to date and that the county would provide a construction/timeline update to supervisors the following day.
Supervisors urged staff to prioritize cleaning ditches, clearing debris from waterways and removing brush that narrows roads and damages vehicles. The board asked staff to produce an updated punch list by district showing outstanding flood repairs and funding sources.
