Highlands public works director to retire at year end; town to begin replacement search

Highlands Town Manager Josh Ward announced at the Sept. 18 meeting that Public Works Director Lamar Nix informed him he will retire at the end of this year. Ward said the town will "quickly begin looking for his replacement" and the board praised Nix’s service.
Why it matters Nix oversees street maintenance, paving projects and other public-works operations. Ward noted Parker Paving was scheduled to begin work on Mainy Road and that Nix’s retirement will require an orderly transition to maintain ongoing projects.
