The Wethersfield Board of Education received a vacancy and enrollment report showing teacher turnover and current student counts.
The superintendent reported 32 total teacher resignations in the last year: eight of those were retirements and 24 were non-retirement exits, producing a district turnover rate of about 10 percent. The superintendent noted the national teacher turnover rate for 2024–25 was approximately 16 percent and said the district does not yet have a state rate figure.
The report included exit-interview coding for reasons staff left, including retirement, workplace fit, moves to other schools, family reasons, and the end of one-year assignments. Board members said the district's compliance with exit-interview requirements had improved; the superintendent said the state of Connecticut requires six exit questions and that the district provides that data to the Connecticut State Department of Education.
On enrollment, the superintendent told the board that "as of 09/04 we have 3,384 students here in Wethersfield Public Schools." Board members discussed kindergarten section sizes at several schools—citing Webb as having high kindergarten enrollment and noting Charles Wright with notably smaller kindergarten sections—and highlighted the importance of tying enrollment data to staffing reports. The superintendent said a staffing report would follow and that the district aims to align staffing with enrollment trends.
Board members asked for more detailed exit-interview coding beyond broad categories such as "workplace fit" so the district can better identify actionable causes for turnover.
