Human-resources officials and the district's benefits broker presented the school board Thursday with Team Liberty's recommendation to switch the district's medical coverage to Cigna and to increase the district's monthly health-insurance contribution for 2026.
Jessica Deeds, a benefits consultant working with Holmes Murphy, said the district marketed the medical plan widely this year because projected claims trended well above the existing contract. Blue Cross Blue Shield initially proposed a renewal; Cigna offered a lower fully insured quote. Deeds said Cigna's proposal included a $700,000 premium credit applied in January and a 10 percent cap on rate increases for 2027.
