School committee approves minutes, event permits and an elementary workday agreement; moves to executive session

The Longmeadow School Committee on Sept. 24 approved routine business items including minutes, four building-use permits and a memorandum of agreement defining elementary educators’ work-day responsibilities, then voted to enter executive session to prepare for collective bargaining.
The committee voted, by roll call, to approve the minutes of the Sept. 8 meeting. The consent agenda — approved by roll call — included four building-use permits: Center School PTO’s Halloween Hustle 5K (Oct. 25), Rays of Hope use of Wolf Swamp parking (Oct. 19), Wolf Swamp PTO’s Turkey Trot 5K (Nov. 29) and Wolf Swamp PTO’s “Big Bad Wolf” trunk-or-treat (Oct. 19, rain date Oct. 26). The committee chair read the items on the consent agenda before the roll-call vote.
The committee then approved a memorandum of agreement with Unit A (Longmeadow Education Association elementary staff) that defines the end of the elementary educator workday in functional terms — instructional duties, family communications, student supervision and scheduled meetings — rather than a single clock time. The agreement allows exemptions or adjustments only with prior administrative approval.
Late in the meeting the committee voted, again by roll call, to enter executive session “pursuant to Massachusetts General Law” for collective bargaining preparation with multiple units and to approve minutes; the motion stated the committee would not reconvene in open session.
