The beer board approved a Class E special-event beer permit requested by Anderson County Bridal Rescue for a Viking‑themed Renaissance festival at Carden Farm Dog Park, scheduled Oct. 11–12. Applicant Katrina Hall said the festival will charge a $7 entry fee ($5 with a donation of pet supplies) and that Gypsy Circus Cider will supply beer and mead; she said no distilled spirits will be served and that police officers will be on site from 8 a.m. Oct. 11 until 8 p.m. Oct. 12. The board voted to approve the permit.
The council unanimously approved Resolution No. 852, a nonbinding statement of support for the Highlander Trail rails‑to‑trails proposal. The resolution, read into the record by city staff, expresses the city’s support for converting an abandoned 41‑mile rail corridor into a nonmotorized recreation trail extending through Anderson, Campbell and Scott counties; the resolution notes that the city is not being asked for funding and that local endorsements are intended to aid the state Office of Outdoor Recreation’s budgeting process.
Council members also authorized, under a single motion, the purchase of four replacement vehicles (three for the police department and one for recreation) and related safety and communications equipment in an amount not to exceed $250,000 from the capital reserve; officials said the purchases will be made from a statewide contract.
The city’s planning commission reported several final‑plat approvals for small, mostly residential subdivisions and lot‑line adjustments; those items were approved unanimously by the commission and conveyed to the council as its report.
