Romy said students feel “we’re not getting enough information on really what we’re doing” and want more discussion of post‑high‑school options. Olivia said some students had the chance to take a pre‑ACT as sophomores in prior cohorts and worried current sophomores would miss that additional preparation. Both advisors recommended clearer communication about when students should first contact counselors and about alternate ways to reach busy college‑counseling staff.
District staff responded that college counselors and advisory activities sometimes include broader outreach but acknowledged access can be limited by counselor workload. A staff member suggested adding an agenda item for the board to review college‑readiness supports; the board placed that item on a future agenda.
No formal action was taken; the exchange was presented under communications and student recognition.
