Angela, a city staff member who oversees related grants and programs, told the council the initiative is the mayor’s priority and that “maybe approximately, 50% of the light, maybe a little more, are either have already been done or in or are in progress of being done.” She said the utilities’ engineering review is required before crews can replace fixtures and that the larger the project the longer the engineering process takes.
Angela said the city intends to break the project into sections so Entergy and Demco can handle portions as their engineering schedules allow. She also said the conversion work is being managed within city budgetary planning and that the upgrades themselves are not a direct cost to residents. The council thanked staff for coordination and for pursuing grants and budgeting approaches to manage costs.
