Committee approves rehabilitation plan for Fairmount Bridge in Hunting Valley

Eric Mack, Public Works, told the committee that the bridge deck is deteriorating and estimated the construction cost at $2,300,000. "The existing bridge deck is falling apart, so we need to repair it," Mack said, adding that the bridge was built in 1941 and last rehabilitated in 1976. He said construction is anticipated to begin in 2027 with completion in 2028 and that staff will seek additional grants to supplement the county estimate.
The committee asked about traffic. The presenter said the bridge carries about 3,600 vehicles per day. A committee member thanked staff for maintaining the county's bridges.
The committee moved and seconded the resolution and voted in favor. The committee chair indicated the measure will proceed under the standard three-reading process; no suspension of the second reading was requested.
Next steps will follow the county's legislative calendar for multi-reading measures and any grant-seeking by Public Works prior to construction.
