Cuyahoga County’s Human Resource Appointments and Equity Committee on Tuesday confirmed Michael Nigre to serve on the Cuyahoga County Corrections Planning Board, approving Resolution R2025-0264 and forwarding it to the full Council.
Ben Schafer, speaking on behalf of the county executive, cited legal authority for the appointment and said the recommendation followed "Ohio Revised Code chapter 5149 and Section 6.04 of the charter." The resolution lists Nigre’s term as Jan. 2, 2025, through Jan. 1, 2028.
Nigre told the committee he brings more than 30 years of experience at Cleveland Municipal Court and described a background in court administration and a ‘‘passion for rehabilitative’’ work. "I have a passion for rehabilitative of defendants," he said, adding that he had worked collaboratively with the county on multiple issues.
Committee members asked about the board’s makeup. Schafer said the corrections planning board has about 19 members representing courts, municipalities (including the City of Cleveland), judges, and the sheriff’s office; he estimated the county appoints "7 or 8" members but offered to confirm the exact number later.
The committee voted to approve R2025-0264 by voice vote and granted a second‑reading suspension, sending the nomination to the full Council for final confirmation.
