Aladjuan White, director of Alachua County Veterans Service Office, told commissioners the advisory board supported several community events in the past year, including a Veterans Day celebration and a Memorial Day program. The presentation credited broad collaboration with county departments, nonprofit partners and volunteers and highlighted objectives for the coming year: continued outreach, support for veteran housing initiatives and promotion of benefits such as the PACT Act.
Commissioners commended the advisory board and Veterans Services staff for outreach and an example of email feedback from a veteranfamily praising the office for compassionate claim assistance. Commissioner Ken Cornell moved to receive the presentation and annual work plan; the board voted to accept the report.
Ending: Staff and the advisory board will continue planning the county Veterans Day event on Nov. 11 and pursue the board goals of veteran housing, health and outreach.
