The Planning Commission on Sept. 11 approved companion amendments to the Sarasota–Bradenton International Airport Development of Regional Impact (DRI No. 15) and a related plan-development ordinance. The action modifies the development order to remove 20,000 square feet of light-industrial uses from Phase 1 and to add 20,000 square feet of school-of-special-education use to Phase 2 on outparcel 2 (an approximately 8.32-acre parcel).
Dan Bailey, attorney for the airport authority, told the commission the change will convert an existing building’s use and that the airport plans later to pursue termination of the DRI and conversion of entitlements to another format in a future submittal. The amendment also clarifies acreages devoted to each land use on outparcel 2 and reflects tolling and extension of expiration dates per statutory guidance; staff recommended approval.
No public opposition arose during the hearing. The commission approved the DRI amendment and related zoning ordinance by voice vote, recorded as 6-0.
