Niceville youth advisory council outlines recycling campaign and service projects

Student members of Niceville's newly formed Youth Advisory Council introduced their membership, upcoming projects and meeting schedule to the city council, including a recycling social-media campaign and spring fundraiser.
Two student ambassadors from the Niceville Youth Advisory Council updated the council on activities the new group plans to pursue this year.
Logan Michael, who identified himself as executive chairman of the Niceville Youth Advisory Council, and Addison Eller, a senior at Niceville High School and council member, said the council currently has five members (including Grayson Schroeder, Eleanor Ballard and Mary Colleen Johnson) with additional non-voting members. They told the council their primary focus is community service and support for city efforts.
The students outlined several projects: a recycling social-media campaign paired with meetings at local schools to raise awareness; coordinating a fundraiser in the spring; partnering with local service groups on a 'sharing and caring' fundraiser; and supporting Wreaths Across America by staging volunteers to help place wreaths at Heritage Gardens. The students said they expect to need volunteers to stage and 'fluff' wreaths and that the Heritage Gardens laying of wreaths will occur on or around Dec. 12 with a ceremony on Dec. 13; they said times would be provided when confirmed.
Councilmember Shasta asked the students about their grade levels; both presenters said they are seniors and that the other three members are juniors. The council thanked the youth ambassadors and encouraged other interested students to apply; the council noted Youth Advisory Council meetings are held at 4 p.m. on the same day as council meetings.
