Summit County Council voted Sept. 17 to adopt a resolution authorizing county staff to file cross‑appeals related to two centrally assessed taxpayers: Mid America Company and Pacific Corp (Rocky Mountain Power).
County staff and outside counsel briefed the council on estimated exposures. Staff said Summit County’s share of the Mid America refund is small (roughly 2 percent of the total refund), with an estimated Summit County impact of approximately $10,600 including interest; the treasurer’s office estimated about $1,600 would affect the county general and municipal funds and about 73 percent of the refund would be attributable to the South Summit School District’s share.
For Pacific Corp, county staff said the company seeks an overall statewide reduction in value in the range of $2,250,000,000 and noted Summit County’s past involvement in a 2020 appeal where Summit held roughly 4 percent of the statewide value. Using the 2020 proportion as a proxy, staff estimated an approximate reduction of $90,000,000 in Summit County value and a potential refund “a little over a million dollars,” though they cautioned the precise local exposure is not yet known.
The council moved to approve the resolution (motion by Councilmember Chris; second by Councilmember Roger). The motion carried on a voice vote; no recorded dissents were made in the meeting transcript.
