Evansville commission approves minutes; announces term expirations and upcoming human‑relations events

The Evansville Human Relations Commission approved minutes from its previous meeting during the Sept. 25 session. The motion to adopt the minutes was made by Commissioner McCreery and seconded by Commissioner Blake Burris; the chair called the motion carried.
Commissioners received administrative notices that terms for several commission seats expire at the end of the year; the administrative office will email current members in October about applying to continue service. Chair Taylor and staff asked members who wish to remain to notify them so potential vacancies can be identified.
Commissioners also highlighted two upcoming Human Relations events: a presentation by commissioner Wattez Phelps at the Central Library on Oct. 18 marking the 30th anniversary of the Million Man March, and the Human Relations annual dinner on Oct. 17 with keynote speaker Dr. Eddie Glaude. The dinner is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., according to the meeting.
The commission said it will begin discussing focus‑session planning in November. The meeting concluded when Commissioner Burris moved to adjourn, seconded by Commissioner Phipps; the chair called the vote and adjourned the meeting.
