Dana Jones and Brad Rogers of the Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District notified the Summit County Council on Sept. 17 that the district intends to seek a property tax increase and described the public process the district will follow.
Jones told the council that the district would return on Oct. 8 with fuller details; parcel‑specific notices will be mailed Oct. 20–25 and a public hearing on the proposed budget and tax increase is scheduled for Dec. 10. Jones said the district plans to “do truth in taxation in little small bites” and proposed asking for a 15 percent increase following prior increases in 2019 and 2022.
Jones also emphasized that the district has grown fee‑for‑service revenue — including program fees and field‑house revenue — by about 22.5 percent over the past two years, which she said reflected higher usage rather than fee increases. She said the tax request would support new and expanded trail miles and facilities and that the district would provide detailed impacts and proposed uses when it returns to the council in October.
Council members did not take formal action at the meeting. Jones said the district does not expect action from the county during the Sept. 17 meeting and will present budget details and public impact information at the Oct. 8 meeting prior to the statutory notice and hearing process.
