Palmyra Area SD publicly recognizes custodial staff for meeting setup and extra work

At the September Palmyra Area School District board meeting, district leadership publicly recognized daytime and nighttime custodial staff for extra setup and teardown duties tied to board meetings and district events.

Dr. Koeppler (Superintendent) invited custodial staff to the front of the meeting room and said the district had previously treated the crew to a meal and wanted to give public recognition. He read a certificate of recognition and singled out daytime custodian Steven Keefer and lead night custodian Peggy Cantrell, along with Bryce Brister and Irene Hatton, saying the team went “above and beyond the call of duty.”

Dr. Koeppler noted staff had taken on additional tasks — including table and chair setup, skirt placement, and end‑of‑night teardown — after meetings were relocated and that the custodial team’s work helped the building be “ready to go” for students. The transcript records board members and attendees applauding the employees and offers of thanks.

No board action or funding decision accompanied the recognition; the item was a public acknowledgment of staff service recorded in the superintendent’s remarks.
