Evansville commissioners plan youth summit, father‑son luncheon and follow‑up outreach

Commissioner McCreery told the Evansville Human Relations Commission the group met with youth participants to plan next year’s youth summit and will next meet Oct. 24 to continue planning. He said he and Jeremy Taylor invited young people to provide perspectives on how the summit should be run.
McCreery said the Father‑Son luncheon is scheduled for Oct. 18; the event is free and set up for 200 attendees. "Any CEMA member will have tickets, and we'll have a designated place where those tickets also can be picked up," McCreery said. He said organizers plan to distribute tickets beginning the following Monday and to advertise on social media and through churches.
The commission will give away bicycles and gas cards at the luncheon, McCreery said. He described plans to invite fathers and mentors who attend the luncheon to return for follow‑up meetings every two weeks — at Memorial Church, the CK Newsome Center or other community sites — to sustain mentoring relationships. "We're gonna see if those fathers, those mentors that are there, with those kids, if they'd be willing to come back, say, in 2 weeks," he said.
McCreery also reported a recent youth camp that had about 31 or 32 participants and said the planning committee meets Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Church. He emphasized the summit and luncheon are open to the public.
Commissioners praised the outreach work; no formal votes were taken on programming at the meeting.
