The Ambridge Area School District Board of School Directors voted on multiple routine and personnel items during its Sept. 17 meeting. Key actions included approval of travel and conference attendance, adoption of a resolution about interim real estate taxes, acceptance of a donation, approval of district vehicle repairs and multiple personnel actions.
Education and technology: The board approved items 1–4 in education and technology, including authorization for Kristen Holmes and Benjamin Holmes to attend the NSTA National Conference Shell Regional Lab Challenge in Minneapolis Nov. 12–15, 2025. The district estimated total expenses for that attendance at $2,809; Shell is expected to provide a portion of the expenses. The motion for items 1–4 was moved and seconded and recorded as “motion carries.”
Finance and budget: The board adopted agenda items 1–8 as presented, including “resolution 20 25, 20 26 dash o 4,” described in the agenda as a resolution authorizing the collection of interim real estate taxes “in a manner consistent with Pennsylvania law.” The board also accepted a donation of filing and storage cabinets described as gifts in kind; the donor received no goods or services in return. The motion carried on roll call.
Building and grounds: The board approved an estimate from Pasmo Automotive Service and Towing for repairs to the district’s 2008 Ford F450 Super Duty truck in the amount of $5,749.47. On the roll call the motion carried with one abstention: Mister Kovecovic was recorded as abstaining.
Personnel and staffing: The board approved multiple personnel items, listed as items 1–7 under personnel, including: - FMLA leave for employee number 1753, beginning Oct. 6, 2025, not to exceed 60 days, under board policy 4 35; - FMLA leave for employee number 2197, beginning Oct. 21, 2025, not to exceed 12 weeks, under board policy 4 35; - Approval of before- and after-school caregivers for Economy Elementary at $15 per hour (pending clearances): Carrie Melench, Christina Thomas, Tammy Kennedy, Linda Sparacino; hours 6:30 a.m.–8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.; - Retroactive hire of Marlon Cottrell as Ambridge Area Middle School secretary at an annual salary of $26,007.15, prorated, effective Sept. 15, 2025, per the Ambridge Area Education Support Professional Association (ESPA) agreement; - Approval of ABC Transit bus and van drivers for the 2025–26 school year (pending clearances), including bus driver Daniel Taylor and van drivers Joseph Shiravelotti and Dawn Alexa, and aide Lakisha McCune.
All personnel items were moved, seconded and recorded as approved on roll call.
Other correspondence: The board acknowledged a thank-you letter from Julie Mulcahy and the Lochland Memorial board thanking the district for a $10,000 donation.
