Hampton County council approves purchase of parcel for airport after extension to closing

Hampton County — On Oct. 6, 2025, the Hampton County Council approved an addendum to extend the purchase agreement for a small parcel at the end of the Hampton County Airport runway and later adopted the third reading of an ordinance authorizing the county to acquire the same parcel.

Deputy County Administrator Christopher Glacy told the council the parcel is at the end of the runway and was historically owned by the town of Barnville; the original purchase agreement had targeted an Oct. 1 closing that was not met. "This is a small parcel at the end of the runway that is currently the town of Barnville's," Glacy said, and the addendum moves the closing window forward to allow staff to finish the transaction.

The council opened a public hearing on the ordinance authorizing the purchase; no members of the public spoke, and the hearing was closed. The council then approved the addendum to the purchase agreement and later approved the ordinance on third reading.

Council members discussed the matter in tandem with routine agenda procedures and heard no objections during the public hearing. The record shows the extension request was presented to allow staff additional time to complete the closing and transfer the parcel into the county inventory for airport use.
