District accountability staff presented the Waxahachie ISD balanced scorecard and Texas Education Agency (TEA) accountability results for the 2024–25 cycle, explaining domain calculations and how changes to the state’s accountability design affect district and campus scores.
Staff described the three domains used in state accountability: Domain 1 (student achievement), Domain 2 (school progress: academic growth and relative performance) and Domain 3 (closing the gaps). The presenter said proportional weighting now assigns larger districts and high schools greater influence on district ratings, and noted the state’s cycle changes make direct comparisons across older years complex.
Key numbers presented included a district overall rating of 76 for 2024–25. The district’s academic growth (Domain 2) score rose from 63 to 65 year over year; relative performance held steady. The presenter noted District-level student achievement subtotals and that the district aims to improve “meets” and “masters” levels in core subjects, particularly reading and language arts where meets and masters lag the state averages.
Campus distinctions and designations were highlighted: Dunaway earned distinctions for academic achievement in reading and science; Northside received a comparative-growth distinction; Coleman received distinctions in comparative growth and postsecondary readiness and was top 25 in comparative closing; Global High and other campuses likewise received distinctions. The presenter said targeted principal-focus meetings and dashboards will guide interventions to raise meets/masters and extended constructed-response skills, which now count significantly in students’ accountability measures.
Board members asked for the presentation slides; staff agreed to distribute the materials for further review and to continue using principal-focus meetings to address targeted improvement areas.
