Construction bond update: Waxahachie ISD reports 85% completion overall for Waxahachie Creek site; delays on track work tied to utility coordination

Coleman Junior High: The district reported that interior warranty punch-list work is complete; outstanding exterior work on the track and field is delayed because Charter Communications must relocate fiber and a pole that currently sits in Lane 5 of the track. Contractors and district staff said funds have been provided and the district is awaiting scheduling from the utility before asphalt and concrete work can be finished.
Findlay and Howard junior highs: Both campuses are in warranty follow-up. The cafeteria projectors and stage lighting systems are either installed or scheduled; additional stage-lighting items were added mid-summer at Howard per a teacher request and remain pending product delivery, the district said.
Waxahachie Creek High School (new campus): District staff said the overall site is approximately 85% complete, with storm infrastructure about 90% complete, sewer 95% and water and fire-loop work roughly 80% complete. The district reported it cannot finish some water and sewer tie-ins until the city completes its work and related bids are awarded. Because of recent rain, concrete pours have been constrained; the district has completed three of 18 slabs and six of 14 fire-lane pours so far. Staff said they received the fire department release to begin vertical construction and a crane is in place; steel deliveries were expected to begin imminently with erection to follow.
Site logistics described by staff include ongoing street maintenance on Old Italy Road for construction traffic, coordination with Encore and Atmos for utilities and additional permitting and plan coordination with TxDOT for a Highway 77 entrance. Staff said they are sequencing pours and access to minimize conflicts with the site batch plant.
Proposition C and other items: Playground work at Dunaway and Northside is underway; Dunaway’s second playground and turf replacement were expected to be complete in mid-next week, and Northside’s work is projected to take three to four weeks. The district is also finishing badge reader installations on selected doors and continuing cafeteria sound upgrades at elementary campuses.
Board members asked about scheduling and weather impacts. District construction staff said they are tracking utility-provider schedules closely and continuing weekly follow-ups to expedite remaining work.
No formal action was required on the informational update.
