Board proclaims October 2025 United Way campaign month; county staff to run employee fundraising

Human resources interim director Susan Cadera introduced the item and said the county traditionally designates a month to encourage employee donations. Cadera said this year’s campaign goal is $20,000 and the campaign motto is “working together to secure basic needs for all.” She introduced Louise Reed, the executive director of the United Way of Nevada County, who described the nonprofit’s program work, including school pantries, Food Access Saturdays and disaster preparedness initiatives funded by recent grants.
Reed said United Way partners include Interfaith Food Ministry, Sierra Community House in Eastern County, Hospitality House, the Food Bank of Nevada County and Community Beyond Violence. The organization reported programs that, in 2025 to date, covered 17 school pantries, served thousands of residents through food access events and launched a new Nevada County Emergency Fund to assist low‑income residents facing urgent needs.
County human resources principal management analyst Robin McFadden Black explained county donation mechanics, including a payroll deduction form and an employee raffle that will feature gift baskets from local businesses across Truckee to Penn Valley. The Board moved, seconded and approved the resolution by roll call (all five districts voting “Yes”).

Next steps Staff said the campaign will run Oct. 1–31 with payroll deduction and raffle options and that employees may designate donations to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The Auditor‑Controller was directed to implement administrative steps associated with the campaign resolution.
