Oxford Area School Board approves agenda items, budgets, contracts and extracurricular additions

The Oxford Area Board of School Directors on Aug. 19 approved its meeting agenda and a series of motions covering finance, curriculum, personnel and extracurricular programs.

The board approved routine business including the Aug. 19 agenda and minutes from the June 10 work session and June 17 regular meeting. It also approved financial reports and bill payments presented at the meeting. The payment-of-bills report listed the general fund, cafeteria fund, capital projects fund and payroll distributions as part of the action taken on the treasurer's reports and bills.

The board adopted a consent agenda that included voluntary student accident insurance with United States Fire Insurance Company; athletic event admission pricing for the 2025-26 school year (student admission $3; adult admission $5; student season pass $25; adult season pass $35; family season pass $50); and a range of event worker rates ($30 for ticket sellers, ticket takers, timers and other listed positions). The consent agenda also included approval of ATSI (additional targeted support and improvement) plans for Oxford Area High School and Penns Grove School, and approval of 2025-26 student handbooks for district schools.

The board approved final curriculum resources recommended by the World Language Committee (grades 6–12), K–12 English as a Second Language resources, and resources for the AP U.S. Government and Politics course. The board approved the superintendent's goals for the 2025–26 school year.

On personnel and staffing, the board approved the hiring slate presented under personnel and placed named staff in the minutes as attaining professional employee status. The board also authorized Superintendent Dr. David A. Woods to fill vacancies between the Aug. 19 meeting and the regular meeting on Sept. 16, 2025, with retroactive approval to employees' start dates as needed.

A standalone motion approved the addition of a ninth-grade girls club volleyball team for the 2025–26 season at no cost to the district; the board clarified that the approval covers this season only and that the program must return to the board for approval in future seasons.

Other approved items included readoption of the 4000 personnel series policies (and specified policy numbers) and several budget and student-activity related accounts.
