District to seek reclassification and pay adjustments to fill athletic‑trainer and food‑service roles

Administration told the board on Sept. 8 it will recommend personnel reclassifications and salary adjustments at the Sept. 15 regular meeting aimed at recruiting for positions that have been difficult to fill.
Athletic‑trainer reclassification
The district plans to reclassify the Unionville High School assistant athletic‑trainer from 8 hours per day for 182 days per year to 8 hours per day for 220 days per year and set a rate at $31 per hour. Administration said the position has been difficult to fill and that the expanded days reflect added responsibilities, including coverage for marching band events, two new club sports (mountain biking and ice hockey) and extended coverage of student activities.
"The additional days are certainly ones that we would need," said Mister Otterbart, explaining the change is intended to better position the role in the local market and align scope with current activity coverage.
Food‑service classification and pay
The administration will also recommend reclassifying the district food‑service office manager to a district food‑service specialist to reflect required credentials (staff cited ServSafe certification) and better match duties across the food‑service department. Separately, staff proposed a salary adjustment to increase the minimum rate for elementary food‑service managers to improve recruitment.
All three personnel recommendations (assistant athletic trainer reclassification, food‑service specialist reclassification and elementary food‑service manager salary adjustment) will be part of next week’s personnel agenda; administration indicated these are routine personnel actions that arose from executive‑session discussions reported at the start of the work session.
Next steps
The personnel items will be presented for action at the Sept. 15 regular meeting, and the administration said it expects the changes to improve hiring prospects for hard‑to‑fill positions.
