The Vero Beach City Council voted unanimously on a slate of reappointments and an elevation of an alternate to the airport commission during the meeting.
Council approved reappointment of Arthur Hodge, Buck Vassell Jr. and Carol Jean Jordan to the Airport Commission and elevated Philip Canal from alternate to full member. The council also appointed Dr. Ian Blair Fries, MD, as an alternate to the Airport Commission. The motion that included those appointments passed 5-0.
Separately, the council reappointed Frank Petrazalos to the Code Enforcement Board (5-0). The council also reappointed members to the Historic Downtown Vero Beach Economic Development Zone Committee, the Marine Commission and the Recreation Commission; each of those motions passed 5-0 in roll-call votes. Council staff said there were no applications on file for several of the vacancies and that some reappointments were routine.
City staff read the expiring terms and noted that a few incumbents requested reappointment; in at least one case an alternate indicated interest in moving to a full seat. The council briefly discussed qualifications for certain roles (for example, that some committee seats are held by property or business owners) and agreed to hold one roster item over to a future meeting where an applicant needed to resign another post before being eligible.
All votes on those appointments were recorded as unanimous (5-0). No contested appointments or substantive policy changes to the commissions’ scopes were made at the meeting.
