Williamsport to spend roughly $1.33 million on 2025 streets paving; contractor to publish schedule

Williamsport City Council on Sept. 4 awarded the 2025 streets paving contract to the lowest responsive bidder, with a base bid reported at $1,326,311.45, and instructed city staff to publish the contractor’s schedule and a street list so residents can prepare.
Bill (city staff) told council the project includes about 17 streets, naming Selkirk Road, Packer Street, Delft Street, Maynard Street, Upland Road, Almond Street, Loeb Street, Maxwell Place, Fifth Street, Laurel Street, Williams Street, Lyons Avenue, Chestnut Street, Sherman Street, Blaine Street, Newcomer Avenue and Hammond Place.
Council members pressed staff on the scope and on cost-sharing with the water authority for blocks where mains were cut. Bill said the city is cost-sharing with the water authority on several streets included in the contract and that the water authority will reimburse the city from the contract for those sections.
Council asked for public notification. Bill said the city expects to schedule the work in late September or October and will publish the contractor’s schedule and street list to the city website and notify council when it is available.
On alleys, staff said alley work is typically handled in-house by the city’s crews and that alley paving runs on a separate program and budget; larger, high-traffic runs are contracted out.
The resolution awarding the contract passed unanimously, 6-0.
