Chester County issues proclamation declaring October Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Chester County Commissioners on Sept. 24, 2025 adopted a proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and invited leaders of the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County to accept the document and address the board.
Commissioner Marion Moskowitz presented the proclamation, which noted the prevalence and impact of domestic violence and recognized the work of local advocates and law enforcement. The proclamation specifically recognized the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County for partnering with other groups and law enforcement to support survivors and advance prevention strategies.
Dr. Dolly Weideman Scott, chief executive officer of the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, thanked the commissioners for their support and described the organization’s role in sheltering and assisting survivors. In her remarks she described a recent client story and highlighted the center’s partnership with law enforcement, saying the lethality assessment program helped connect a mother and her children with immediate support and shelter.
Dr. Yashoda Sharma, board president of the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, provided figures the center reported from its most recent year of service: the center “served around 1,853 survivors,” provided “9,548 hours of counseling, including 528 of group counseling for 78 survivors,” and “provided 488 hours of counseling to 213 children.” She also noted the center’s Adopt‑a‑Family program supported 143 families and 449 individuals during the holidays. Sharma invited the public to attend a Light the Night for Hope and Healing event on Oct. 7, 2025 at West Chester.
Commissioners accepted the proclamation and thanked center leadership for their work. The board also noted the county’s continued partnership with local domestic violence service providers and encouraged residents to support awareness and prevention efforts.
