Lutherville Lab parents tell BCPS board chronic bus lateness is disrupting student routines

At the Sept. 24 meeting of the Board of Education of Baltimore County, a parent from Lutherville Lab Elementary described chronic school bus delays that she says have made her children and other students late to school and caused staff to supervise students beyond contract hours.
Nicole Mermin said her children miss “morning meeting, vital routines, and announcements” because the bus regularly arrives after the school’s 9:05 a.m. start. She said evening pickups are also inconsistent because buses must return from other routes, and students sometimes wait in the cafeteria, causing staff to work past their scheduled time.
Mermin, who identified herself as both a parent and a teacher in a different district, said she and other families have emailed the central route supervisor and the director but had received no response. She asked that the board work with the Office of Transportation or Human Resources to determine the causes of the chronic lateness, including whether substitute-driver supply, pay or working conditions are factors.
Board members did not vote on the matter at the meeting. The comment was accepted during public comment and recorded for follow-up; the board’s public records note that families may also use boe@bcps.org to submit concerns.
The board did not provide a staff response during the public-comment segment.
