Lieutenant Kilgore presented the public safety report covering Aug. 4 through Sept. 1 and said the department recorded 1,022 total events during that period.
Kilgore listed highlights including 10 assists to other agencies, 23 community‑policing initiatives, 85 foot patrols, 30 house checks, 536 patrol checks, 11 general traffic complaints and 103 traffic enforcement initiatives. The report also listed two incidents of missing front license plates.
Council members questioned whether the two front‑plate removals were thefts. Kilgore said one incident on Village Road likely was not theft because an officer observed the vehicle being driven without a secure front plate and a license‑plate‑reader check did not show the tag in circulation; the report said the town would treat the matter cautiously in case a removed plate is later used on a stolen vehicle.
Kilgore described a traffic stop by Sergeant Kirchner of a repeat offender riding a dirt bike on roadways; the rider was cited and the motorcycle towed. A separate juvenile incident resulted in an arrest on controlled‑substance charges after officers found what the report described as mushrooms, marijuana and paraphernalia.
Kilgore said Sergeant Lacy had obtained Apple AirTags through a Maryland State Police contact and the department will distribute them to residents whose vehicles are at high risk of theft (for example, certain Kia models) after a screening process. The department will also host a junior CSI Academy on Sept. 13.
Kilgore also noted a structure/property damage report (report number noted in the meeting) and said staff would follow up with details and check for available surveillance footage. No formal police policy changes or council actions were proposed at the meeting.
