The Town of Sykesville adopted a proclamation proclaiming Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, 2025, as Hispanic Heritage Month during its Sept. 9 mayor and town council meeting.
Mayor (President) Carter read the proclamation, saying the month "honors the culture, heritage, and contributions of Hispanic Americans," and referenced the historical anniversaries that anchor the observance. Councilman Keenan moved adoption of the proclamation; Councilman Dyer seconded the motion. The council voted unanimously to adopt the proclamation.
The proclamation text cited the monthlong observance’s expansion in 1988 and encouraged residents to "participate in activities designed to bring recognition and understanding and appreciation to the significant contributions made by Hispanic Americans." No additional council debate or conditions were recorded on the item.
