Committee recommends opening general music theory to freshmen and sophomores

The West Bend School District Curriculum Committee on Sept. 30 reviewed a recommendation to change prerequisites for general music theory so ninth- and tenth-grade students can enroll.
Kelly Downs, director of curriculum and instruction, presented the recommendation and acknowledged Corey Murphy, who brought the request. Corey clarified that honors music theory is a continuation course and that the change under consideration would open general music theory to freshmen and sophomores to help populate higher-level sequences.
No committee vote was recorded at the Sept. 30 meeting; staff said the change was being checked for procedural completeness before advancing to the full board for routine curriculum approval.
