Commissioners reviewed an elevator inspection report presented at the meeting indicating the county's elevator is not in compliance and will require repair or modernization.
Public works staff said the county’s current maintenance company provided a compliance report and recommended repairs. The inspector told staff that, because the elevator is not currently in compliance, the maintenance company will not perform the modernization work itself and the county must get quotes from other firms. Staff said they would obtain additional quotes and return to the commission with cost estimates.
Commissioners discussed whether manufacturer-specific maintenance clauses would prevent third-party work and noted some manufacturers require certified maintainers to preserve parts warranties. One commissioner offered to review the proposed contract and help examine termination clauses before the county executes any modernization contract.
