Riversport reports steady programs, events and a near-10% year-over-year ridership gain

The Riversport Foundation told trustees on Sept. 23 that it kept operating margins by trimming expenses after a drop in contributed support and described robust youth and adult rowing activity ahead of fall regattas.
A Riversport representative identified as Chris said the organization’s youth rowing league has 120 junior athletes aged roughly 15–19 training multiple days per week and that 160 scholastic youth rowing teams participate in a 10-week course. Chris said the adult “corporate” rowing and dragon-boat leagues have 36 teams and that those teams will compete at the Head of the Oklahoma regatta in October.
Chris summarized spring and summer programming: an estimated 707 athletes competed at a June event called Stars and Stripes, Riversport hosted a “23 camp” for Olympic hopefuls, and the annual River Bowl Classic drew 124 athletes. Riversport also ran a monthly “learn to row” three-week course throughout the summer, with nearly 200 participants to date.
On finances, Chris said contributed support is down from the prior year because of grants received in the previous fiscal year tied to a bike-park installation; Riversport has offset this with operating and labor savings to remain EBITDA-positive.
Upcoming events listed by Riversport include the Head of the Oklahoma regatta in October, fall youth rowing league championships on Nov. 8 and the holiday river parade on Nov. 15. Chris said the Head of the Oklahoma will include collegiate competitors.
