Residents press Enid commission to adopt no-kill shelter policies and improve adoption listings

Terry Clark of 1760 Eshee Avenue said the community has compiled a five-day lifesaving plan and urged the commission to ‘‘make our shelter a no kill shelter.’’ Clark supplied copies of the proposal to commissioners and asked them to review it.
Candy Baker of 734 North Sixteenth Avenue told the commission she was speaking for ‘‘the animals who cannot speak’’ and recommended that animals entering the facility be photographed and entered into a computer system so the public could view animals available for claim or adoption.
Both speakers said Enid should follow other Oklahoma shelters that have adopted no-kill goals and encouraged the city to implement changes to prevent unnecessary euthanasia and to increase public visibility of available animals. The remarks were entered into the public record; no commission action or response beyond receipt was recorded in the transcript.
