Board holds first reading of 13 policy revisions tied to state law changes

The Silver Creek School Corporation Board of Trustees conducted a first reading on Sept. 9 of 13 policy revisions that district officials said respond to changes in state law effective July 1.
Doctor Briggs introduced the item and district staff listed impacted policy numbers, including those governing curriculum, reproductive-health and family-planning instruction, and bullying. Administrators said some policies were being consolidated (for example, several field-trip policies and food-service/vending machine policies) for clarity.
The board completed the first reading and administrators said they will present a second reading for approval at the next regular meeting. No formal approval was taken during the Sept. 9 session; the district described the policy updates as driven by statutory changes and as including both required updates and editorial “clean-up.”
Board members did not debate the policy texts on the public record during this session; the district indicated the revised policies will return for a second reading and formal action at the next meeting.
