Supervisors report flooding damage in East Kern; 500 residents still without water, county coordinating response

Board members said they were monitoring flood damage in East Kern after heavy rains left communities with property and infrastructure damage and hundreds of residents without water.
Supervisor David Peters said late-week flooding affected Randsburg and Johannesburg, causing road and home damage and disrupting local water systems. “There’s currently still 500 residents without water,” Peters told the board, and county staff and volunteers had been working through the weekend to assist affected residents.
Peters thanked county departments, emergency responders and Assemblyman Stan Ellis, whom Peters said personally arranged and delivered water supplies. “Without thinking twice, he hung up, made a phone call, got some water,” Peters said, describing Ellis’s assistance.
Supervisor Peters said department heads were meeting to assess damages and that the community awaited a decision about whether the county would request a state of emergency declaration. Fire, roads, and sheriff’s personnel assisted with door-to-door checks, water deliveries and infrastructure repairs.
The board did not take formal action in the morning session but indicated it would continue to coordinate resources and report back as assessments conclude.
