The Technology & Operations Committee on Sept. 24 recommended placing a business systems item on the full board agenda to award a one‑year, sole‑source contract not to exceed $1,925,000 for sticker transponders and related roadside equipment needed for the Tollway’s electronic toll collection system.
Michael Potolacov, chief of business systems, said the request reflects a significant change in procurement driven by the Authority’s switch to lower‑cost sticker tags that replace older transponders. He said the contract will supply sticker tags and the roadside detection equipment to read those tags and emphasized the need for compatibility with the Tollway’s E‑ZPass electronic tolling system. The presentation noted the sticker tags are materially less expensive than the old transponders and that the contract term is one year and the amount requested is not to exceed $1,925,000.
Committee members moved and seconded placement of the item on the full board agenda; the motion passed by voice vote at the committee and the item was later approved at the full board meeting. Staff indicated this purchase is important to support ongoing tolling operations and that vendor commitments will include implementation compatibility with existing systems.
