Emery Telecom donates to Price City pickleball courts; council accepts donation

The Price City Council accepted a donation from Emery Telecom to support new pickleball courts after the company—s representative presented the contribution during the Sept. 24 council meeting.
Terrence Powell, who identified himself as representing Emery Telecom, told the council the company intended to donate $1,010,000 for the city—s courts. Powell said the sport—s local popularity is growing and he presented the check during the meeting.
Council members and staff discussed the project schedule and said recent flooding had delayed city crews and forced the demolition timeline to slip. The council identified an RFP process under development and said John Boyd is preparing the request for proposals; staff noted demolition and other early work were delayed while crews responded to flood cleanup.
Council member Miller moved to accept the donation and Council member Jesperson seconded. The council voted unanimously to accept the donation.
Council members also said showing visible demolition or initial work on the site could reduce community concern while the RFP and contracting work continue. Staff and council did not provide a final construction start date; Miles (staff member) estimated the courts could be open by spring of the following year if demolition and contracting proceed on an updated schedule.
The council noted ongoing private donations to the courts project and said the Emery Telecom gift increases community support for the effort.
