El Campo ISD board approves library materials list under new state posting requirement

District staff explained the materials list includes purchases for campus libraries and that the lead librarian compiles teacher and campus requests into the district list. Staff told trustees the district plans to place the current list on the website and to return similar lists to the board periodically; staff said the district expects to present library purchases about three times a year on the consent agenda going forward.
Trustees asked for more detail on the selection and vetting process. Board members asked whether teachers originated the requests, whether online platforms such as OverDrive and MyON are vetted and who monitors those digital services, and how librarians prioritize replacement copies versus new titles. Lead librarian Maffet (identified in the meeting as the lead librarian) and staff said each campus librarian works within a budget and compiles requests; staff agreed to provide the board more detail about the campus selection process.
A trustee asked the board's intent be conveyed to librarians so purchases reflect community values; staff agreed to convey that message. The motion to approve the list was made by Mister Dubrat and seconded by Miss Nihalitz; trustees voted unanimously to approve the list.
